Vivosun AeroLight Wing AW400 Review: 2024 Test vs. Current Model

Quick answer: The 2024 Vivosun AeroLight Wing AW400 I tested combined a 400-watt folding panel, two circulation fans, adjustable spectrum modes and app/controller automation in one fixture. My Apogee readings made it a strong fit for a 4×4 tent at the time. This is now a historical hardware review, not a blanket recommendation for every AW400 listing.
Old-model warning: The video describes the regular 2024 AW400 as using Samsung LM301H diodes and treats the LM301B SE version as a separate product. Vivosun’s current AW400 product page describes Samsung 301H EVO hardware, while the current U.S. collection lists the AW400 as sold out. That means today’s page is not the exact diode generation shown in my 2024 test. Verify the model code, diode generation, controller bundle and specifications before ordering. What made the 2024 AW400 different
The useful idea was not just “a light with fans.” The two center circulation fans pushed air through the open middle of the fixture, while the outer wings could be angled to change where the side light landed. In a 4×4 tent, that gave me another way to work on dimmer edges without placing a hard hotspot directly in the center.

The 2024 unit also offered sprout, vegetative and flowering modes that changed the active diode mix. The app allowed finer light and fan adjustments than the separate controller shown in the video. That flexibility was useful, but the bundle matrix was confusing even then: the regular and SE models, diode packages, controllers and probe combinations were not interchangeable.

Vivosun currently claims 400 watts, 2.9 µmol/J, 168 CFM, 33 dB(A), IP65 and 839 µmol/(m²·s) at 12 inches for its present product page. Those are manufacturer specifications for the current listing, not measurements from my 2024 unit. I did not independently retest the 301H EVO generation.
What my Apogee test showed
I used an Apogee MQ-500 in a 4×4 tent to find practical starting points for the original review unit:
- Low starting point: the video reported roughly 250 PPFD in the center at 25% in sprout mode with the sensor about 20.5 inches below the fixture.
- Higher flowering setting: the video reported roughly an 800-PPFD average at 88% in bloom mode around 16 inches.
- Controller-only reference: 100% around 17.5 inches was the reported route to roughly 800 PPFD when using the coarser manual steps.

These are starting points, not a feed chart for light. The correct height depends on the exact hardware, dimmer, mode, canopy size, plant response, photoperiod, temperature and whether you are supplementing CO2. Map the center, edges and corners rather than trusting one number.
What about heat?
In the short sealed-tent observation shown in the video, with no inline exhaust, the AW400 setup raised temperature a little over 10°F. I described that as cooler than the roughly 12°F rise I had seen from other panel lights. That supports a narrow statement: this review unit did not look unusually hot in that test.
It does not prove that every AW400 runs cool in every tent. Room temperature, test length, dimmer setting, fan speed, probe location and ventilation change the result. The built-in fans move air inside the tent; they do not remove the fixture’s electrical heat from the room. Use the cannabis temperature and humidity guide to size the complete environment.
Is an AW400 still worth buying?
The integrated-light-and-air concept is still appealing when you want fewer separate canopy fans and value app automation. The tradeoff is dependence on a more complex product ecosystem. A failed integrated fan, app change or controller mismatch can be harder to replace than a basic light plus separate circulation fans.
I would only consider an AW400 after confirming the exact model code, diode generation, included controller/probe, manual fallback, warranty and return policy. If it is a used 2024 unit, inspect the fans, hinges, driver, cords and app compatibility. If it is the current 301H EVO listing, treat my old measurements as background and map that new light from scratch.
