Quick answer: The Hey Abby OG box I tested in 2024 produced a four-ounce total harvest in a small footprint, but it was not a magic “press one button and forget the plant” machine. I still had to watch pH and solution strength, manage the canopy, control room humidity, deal with odor outside the cabinet and clean the reservoir. The box handled several repeatable jobs; it did not replace the grower.

Old-model warning: This review is about the exact OG Edition shown in my videos. Hey Abby’s current records are inconsistent: the company’s OG product page still displays an order option, while its June 2026 FAQ says the OG Edition is discontinued, and the OG Pro describes different lighting and smart-device hardware. Do not assume a current same-name listing is the unit I tested. Use the State of the Indoor Grow Equipment guide to verify the generation, seller, included subscription, app dependence, warranty and return terms before buying.

Disclosure: Hey Abby sent me the reviewed unit. That does not change the limits documented below, and I am not presenting a current Hey Abby purchase link until the exact orderable model and terms are verified.

What the cabinet actually automated

The cabinet arrived mostly assembled. The physical setup was straightforward: remove the packing material, install the legs, place the carbon filters, attach the magnetic screen, power it on and pair the app. During the grow, the unit managed its programmed lighting and fan behavior. That was genuinely convenient.

But “automated” needs a boundary. I still had to check pH and PPM, replenish water and nutrients, spread and prune the canopy, respond to deficiencies, manage the room around the cabinet and clean the system. If a sensor drifts, a root zone develops a problem or the plant stretches into the light, the box cannot reason through that for you.

Real results, odor and humidity limits

A concise public cut of the finished-plant evidence, humidity and odor limitations, measured harvest and my conditional verdict. Detailed Hydro instruction remains in the protected Hydro boundary.

The strongest result is easy to see: the cabinet can produce high-quality flower. My final weigh-in was 91 grams of non-seeded flower plus 21 grams of larf and seeded material, for a four-ounce total. That is one real result from one plant architecture and one completed grow. It is not a universal yield promise.

The limitations matter just as much. Even after defoliation, the room reached 72% relative humidity and needed a separate dehumidifier. Guests could smell the plant in the room, so the cabinet was not odor-invisible. The short canopy also forced earlier timing and careful plant-shape choices. A compact cabinet reduces the footprint; it does not remove the lung room.

Choose genetics for the cabinet you actually have

Do not start with a strain that naturally wants to become a tree and then blame the cabinet for running out of headroom. Look for documented stretch, branch spacing, flower density and finish time. Selfie Seeds™ is HWGrow’s seed bank and should be evaluated the same way: choose the specific genetics for the space and keep records instead of treating every seed as interchangeable.

My Hey Abby OG verdict

The 2024 OG proved that a cabinet can centralize lighting, circulation and app-controlled routines in a clean, compact package. The real tradeoff is that you pay for integration while still owning the biology. You need measurement tools, sanitation, climate control, training judgment and a backup plan when the app or plant does something unexpected.

I would not buy a current unit from this old review alone. Verify the exact model generation and terms first, then compare the complete cost with a normal tent setup. If the cabinet format solves a real space or appearance problem for you, that convenience can have value. If you mainly want the best light, reservoir and service access for the money, a conventional tent may be easier to repair and upgrade.

Where to learn the growing workflow

This public review covers the equipment and the result, not the protected step-by-step Hydro lessons. Start with the public pH, EC, PPM and runoff guide. The detailed grow-cycle videos remain inside the Hydro Masterclass boundary so the public review does not duplicate the paid course. If you are comparing a cabinet with a tent, ask HWGrow and include the room size, model link, budget and what you actually want automated.

Hey Abby OG FAQ

Is the Hey Abby OG fully automatic?

No. It automated several lighting, fan and app routines, but the grow still required pH and solution-strength checks, water and nutrient management, canopy work, climate control, sanitation and troubleshooting.

Is the Hey Abby OG smell proof?

No. My guests could smell the plant in the room even with the cabinet filters installed. Treat it as odor reduction, not an odor guarantee.

How much did the Hey Abby OG produce?

My documented grow finished with 91 grams of non-seeded flower plus 21 grams of larf and seeded material, a four-ounce total. That is one result, not a guaranteed yield.

Is the current Hey Abby the same model HWGrow reviewed?

Do not assume so. The reviewed unit is the 2024 OG Edition, while current Hey Abby pages contain conflicting availability and materially different OG Pro hardware descriptions. Verify the exact current listing before buying.

  1. I plan on getting some cash together to subscribe to the Patreon. I just learned how to use Excel for this! I have the Abby box and I’m in the discord! I’m going to attempt to become active in the discord soon. This will be my first ever grow and I have almost zero idea but your videos have broke it down so well that I believe subbing to your Patreon will be WORTH! I just wanted to use this to express how I feel and to connect with you on the subject! Thank you for all that you do.
